Fortera Earns ISO 9001 Certification for ReAct SCM Production

Fortera, developer of a process converting industrial source carbon dioxide to calcium carbonate-rich cementitious materials, has achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification for its ReCarb Plant in Redding, Calif. ISO 9001: 2015, Quality Management Systems – Requirements is an internationally recognized standard through which businesses ensure consistent delivery of materials, products or services meeting customer and regulatory requirements.

The certification applies to the Fortera flagship facility, equipped for annual output of 15,000 tons of ReAct low-carbon cementitious materials.

“Obtaining ISO certification reflects our team’s dedication to quality, transparency, and continuous improvement,” said CEO Ryan Gilliam. “This certification not only validates our processes, but it also indicates that we’re serious about doing things the right way. As an organization, we’re capable of managing complex processes with discipline and foresight, which is incredibly important as we scale our operations.” While the certification is specific to the Redding ReCarb facility, he added, it offers a template for future capacity as Fortera aims to meet the rising demand for low-carbon cement and concrete solutions.

The ISO 9001:2015 certification process required a rigorous, months-long effort involving the entire Fortera team, from documenting standard operating procedures to implementing systematic internal audits and responding to third-party feedback. The producer’s structured approach utilized root-cause analysis, cross-functional reviews, and real-time customer feedback to continuously refine systems and enhance product performance, ensuring full compliance with the standard’s demanding requirements.

“Quality is not a one-time achievement, but a continuous commitment embedded in our core values and reflected in everything we do,” affirmed Fortera Director of Quality and Performance Jorge Duque. “The ISO certification is a critical signal that we are not only producing a technically sound product but doing so under a robust, validated quality framework. Our customers can trust that our cement has been rigorously tested and manufactured using repeatable, traceable, and high-integrity processes.”

The ISO 9001:2015 pursuit has dovetailed Fortera’s work with northern California ready mixed producers Central Concrete Supply and Shasta Redi-Mix, along with their customers Webcor and SK Construction, on concrete schedules calling for low-clinker mixes containing blends of ReAct SCM, Type IL and slag cements.
